അതിസുന്ദരമായ ദൃശ്യങ്ങള്‍, സമര്‍ഥമായ പശ്ചാത്തലസംഗീതം, മമ്മൂട്ടി എന്ന മഹാനടന്റെ പകരം വയ്ക്കാനില്ലാത്ത അഭിനയപാടവം എന്നിവയെല്ലാം കൂടിച്ചേര്‍ന്നതോടെ മികച്ച സിനിമാഅനുഭവം തന്നെയാക്കേണ്ടതായിരുന്നു ഈ ഗൗരവമായ ചലച്ചിത്രസംരംഭം. പക്ഷേ ആത്മാവ് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട ശരീരം പോലെ വെറുമൊരു കഥപറച്ചില്‍ മാത്രമായിപ്പോയി ഇത്.

A committed adaptation!

All said, you must watch this film if you have not read the novel. It will help you get familiar with an eternal classic. The director’s efforts has paid off well. He has managed to manage to harvest a matching curiosity from the audience for the film, just like the novel does.

Balyakalsakhi one of the greatest love story from the legendary writer Sri  Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, has given at-most respect and sincerity in the latest film with the same name from Pramod Payyannur.

‘ബാല്യകാല സഖി’ നല്ല സംരംഭമാണ്. അതിന് പോരായ്മകളുണ്ടാകാം. ബഷീറിയന്‍ എഴുത്തും അതിന്റെ സിനിമാറ്റിക് രൂപവും താരതമ്യം ചെയ്യാനുമാകില്ല. നവസംവിധായകന്റെ ആദ്യ ചിത്രം എന്ന നിലയിലുള്ള ചില ബാലാരിഷ്ടതകളായി മാത്രം അതിനെ കണ്ടാല്‍ മതി

Good for one-time watch, but fails to make much of an impact or impression...

Balyakalasakhi as a book is indeed a classic but in the form of a cinema it hasn’t reached that stature. 

I won’t recommend Balyakalasakhi for all. Mass masala lovers stay away. If the mentioned flaws of a debutant director are worth forgiving, then it might turn out to be your cup of tea.

Happened to be the adaptation of a universally acclaimed novel, arising comparison from round the corners is quite natural. But, even considering this fact too, we could not left behind some of the items without mentioning.

It was a pristine world where emotions were pure but raw, life was simple but hard. Debutant director Pramod Payyannur skilfully recreates not just the ambience but also manages to convincingly reproduce the unpretentious Malayali life of those days.

Pramod Payyannur tries to adapt Basher's timeless classic in an earnest manner, his efforts are undone by his lead characters since their bond, which is crucial for a romance, doesn't work its magic.

Altogether Balyakalasakhy is successful as a cinematic recreation but fails in its emotional content. ​The movie is an able watch for serious viewers and is also a clean film for film viewers. surprisingly, the movie seems to be 20 minutes less than its censored version.

Pramod Payyanur has done a fair job of it in his maiden venture.As was expounded in the beginning it was a challenge to film a much loved classic and if in the end analysis the movie appears a tad mundane,it can only be attributed to the impact of the writings of the colossus that the Beypore Sulthan was.

Pramod Payyannur's Balyakalasakhi, the cinematic adaptation of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's well known novel of the same name, with Mammootty and Isha Talwar in the lead is a near excellent adaptation of the novel backed with some wonderful performances.

കഴിയുമായിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ മായാവിയിലെ സലിം കുമാറിനെ പോലെ ബഷീര്‍ താണുകേണു അപേക്ഷിച്ചേനെ ‘ഒരു കയ്യബദ്ധം. നാറ്റിക്കരുത്!!’

ബഷീറിയന്‍ ചിന്താധാരകളെ പിന്തുടരാന്‍ തീര്‍ച്ചയായും പ്രമോദ് പയ്യന്നൂരിന്റെ ബാല്യകാലസഖിക്കു സാധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതുതന്നെയാണ് ഈ സിനിമയുടെ കാലികപ്രസക്തിയും. കുറ്റങ്ങളും കുറവുകളുമെല്ലാം പൊറുക്കാം.

For all those fans of legendary writer Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer, here is a chance to meet the characters again, as debutant director Pramod Payyannur lines up some of them in his Balyakalasakhi. But this adaptation of the book of the same title is too dramatic and never goes beyond this nostalgic showcasing of those characters.
